There's an elephant in the room.. saying 'your subscription will end in 8 days' ? Do we pass round the hat for a collection to keep the adverts away; if so, is there a paypal button to donate spare change somewhere.. - scapegoat scapegoat Feb 18, 2006 -oh wait, it's already being discussed elsewhere

Hey I noticed that I'm the only member (manage space) with a remove marking behind my name. does anybody know why?
- GordonR GordonR

Gordon, you can only remove your own membership from the site. Organizers can remove members, but not other organizers. In other words, each member sees the 'remove' link by his own name in the list of members. - Alyce Alyce

Thanks Alyce, I translated the lbtutorial into Dutch. May I post it somewhere here? - GordonR GordonR

Hey Gordon, if it's okay with Carl, you can post it. You don't need permission. This site is whatever the community wants it to be. Thanks for contributing. - Alyce Alyce

Wow, the site has been really busy during the last few days. Great! I'm going to archive some of the old chat stuff, so we don't need to scroll so far to read the new stuff. - Alyce Alyce Feb 23, 2006

I'm submitting this article for Newsletter consideration. I'm having a bit of trouble with the formatting. It's quite lengthy because of the demo codes. I am envisioning that each of the 4 demos are linked to separately rather than in the body of the article. Rather than trying to do that here, I'll wait until it's accepted and then work on that change at LBPE. If it's not accepted, I'll post it here under Shared Code. I'd also like to include a .png illustration. I uploaded 2 images (CCBTile.png and SimpleHouse.bmp) but when I try to add them to the text, they show up as links to the file download rather than being displayed. Clearly I need to learn a lot more about formatting before I can be an effective contributor. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks. Janet

Janet, when you are editing a page, look at the top right corner of the edit box. Click the link for images. Double-click on the image you want and the tag is inserted. Edit this page to see what it looks like:
CCBTile.PNG
I don't see your BMP. Wikispaces requires images to be PNG, GIF or JPG.
- Alyce Alyce Apr 9, 2006

I thought that's what I did. Clearly I'm clicking the wrong icon because I'm still not getting it. I tried the .png first, then the .bmp just in case there was a problem with the .png. The edit page I'm typing on at the moment just shows the image not the code. Shows it pretty well, though. <smile>. If I Right Click and View Source, I can get this command:
<img src="/space/showimage/CCBTile.PNG" alt="CCBTile.PNG" />
Copying and pasting that doesn't work, though. I am off to Sandbox now to try to figure this out. I'm sure I'm just clicking the wrong icon. - JanetTerra JanetTerra Apr 9, 2006

When I click on the Add Image icon, I get an insert of available files on the right of the page. Double clicking fairy.jpg does exactly what I want. Double clicking any of the images I uploaded only gives a link to the file. Also, when I choose the radiobutton Images Only, my images don't show. Choosing Files Only shows my image files. So, I'm not trying to display the image incorrectly, I'm uploading incorrectly. I'll need some more time to figure this out. - JanetTerra JanetTerra Apr 9, 2006

I haven't used the visual editor. I use the plain ol' text editor and add the tags myself. The tag for an image is [[image:yourimagename.png]] It's translated into the HTML code you mention above when the page is displayed. I got the same thing as you when I simply clicked the image, since it use the tag for files, instead of the one for images -- [[file:yourimagename.png]] - Alyce Alyce

Does this do what you want? First pix is SimpleTile.png and second pix is CCBTile.png with some size elements. Bill Beasley

SimpleTile.png
and
CCBTile.png

I'm not sure what you did, Bill, to make these pictures show. This is me double-clicking fairy.jpg
fairy.jpg
and this is me double-clicking But, I've been out visiting sick relatives all afternoon and evening and now I've got to pay bills to go into the mail tomorrow. I'll play with this tomorrow. Sometimes these types of things keep me humble -- REALLY HUMBLE!! :( - JanetTerra JanetTerra Apr 9, 2006

Janet, I think it's a problem in the wiki script. The tags that are inserted look like this:

[[image:fairy.jpg]] [[file:SimpleTile.png]]

See how the fairy has "image" and the simpletile has "file"? If you use the text editor instead of the visual editor, you can fix them easily. - Alyce Alyce
